Fear is the mind-killer

At our church we are doing a series about anxiety. Most people are anxious about something now a days, and I think for good reason. There is trouble in our world, a pandemic, armies on the move, political unrest, and violence in the streets. Anxiety is caused by fear. If you’ve read the book or seen the movie Dune, “I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone, there will be nothing. Only I will remain.” In the Bible, God says “Do not fear” and “Do not be afraid” all the time, but we are human. We fear most everything and politicians use that to manipulate us. So how do we lower our fear level? As a prepper, I try to look into my crystal ball to see what the future holds by looking at the past. In the past I see ice storms, hurricanes, power outages, phone outages, internet outages, water line breaks, earth quakes, fires, lightning strikes, food shortages, riots, wars, coronal mass ejections (CME’s), terrorist attacks, unemployment, high inflation, stock market crashes, bank closings, pandemics, and the list goes on. Sorry if that make you anxious, it’s a lot to take in. That is all in the past, but it’s a good list of what could happen in the future. So how do we prepare for all that. The answer is to become as resilient as you can to these events. Make your own list and order it by priority. It starts with what I discussed in my last post, 3 days of food and water with a way to prepare it. A way to keep warm and safe. After that expand that to 7 days, then 14, 21, 30 days. Make sure you have toilet paper and Clorox wipes! Keep enough cash on hand to last you a week, then as you can a month. Look at the Ready.gov website for things that you should have on hand like flashlights, batteries, radio, etc. Having 7+ days of food and water should remove some fear and anxiety. One less thing to worry about. What’s next? That depends on your list and priorities. Maybe you loose power a lot and want to keep your freezer running or need a CPAP to sleep. Then you need a gas or propane generator or a solar power station. They are not actually solar; they are battery packs with a built-in inverter. You can charge them using solar panels, grid power, or a real generator. You need to look at what you want to power and for how long. That will tell you how big a generator or power station you need and always keep it outside away from the house. Maybe you need to heat your house or a bedroom? We sell Mr. Heater products that are rated indoor safe. Modern fireplaces send most of their heat up the flue. So, you get the idea. Make a list and work the list. We have lots of products to get you prepared for most anything. I’ll bet you’ve never seen many of them before and considered what they can do for you. Do not fear, have a plan. God bless!
